Wild weather causes destruction in the states south

After a wet and wild day yesterday, Emergency services are asking people in the Spring Beach and Orford areas to remain vigilant and aware of their personal safety while emergency works are underway to replace a bridge that was washed out following the heavy rainfall.

Contingency plans are in place to access people in the area where vehicular access is unavailable.

A police marine vessel has been deployed to the Orford area and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter is ready for dispatch if required.

There will be a reduced capacity for firefighting due to fire trucks not being able to gain access to the area. However, firefighters and some small equipment will be transported across if necessary.

Pedestrian access to the area remains in place.

Motorists are asked to be extra careful on the roads in the area.

The Glamorgan Spring Bay Council is working on the replacement of the bridge.

In the event of an emergency, contact emergency services on Triple Zero (000).
