Rebate scheme offered to primary producers to increase workplace safety

The Tasmanian Liberal Government promised at the 2021 election to implement a $2 million Primary Producer Safety Rebate Scheme to decrease hazards in the agriculture sector.

“I am pleased the Scheme is now active, with farmers able to apply and receive a rebate of up to $5,000 for eligible items that address the top five hazards that cause injury and death in Tasmania’s agriculture sector.” Said Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs, Elise Archer.

The Scheme targets the most common hazards that cause death and injury in this sector, such as vehicle incidents involving quad bikes and tractors.

Applicants will need to identify the hazard at their workplace, explain what the risk associated with that hazard is, and why implementing one of the eligible solutions would reduce that risk.

“Our Government wants to see a demonstrated improvement in safety on our farms, and so I encourage farmers to go online to view the eligibility criteria and apply.”
