Following our story of the man who was allegedly killed by a truck, Tasmania Police confirmed in a post on Facebook today that they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Gary John Hayes.
“Police are continuing to investigate the death of Gary John Hayes who was tragically killed in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2019 after being struck by a truck.”
“Mr Hayes was walking on the Midland Highway near the Briggs Road Overpass about 2.45am when he was struck by a truck travelling north.”
“At the time, he was wearing dark clothing on an unlit section of the highway.”
“Police are appealing to truck drivers who may have been using the highway at the time.”
“Visibility testing undertaken in the area by crash investigators indicate that the driver may not be aware that it was in fact a person that was struck by the vehicle.”
“Police would like to speak with any drivers of heavy vehicles who were working that evening on the Midland Highway, in order to resolve this matter for Mr Hayes’ family.”
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Sergeant Adrian Leary of Hobart Crash Investigation on 131 444 or through their local police station.”
