Police respond to an incident where a man is believed to be armed with a knife

UPDATE at 10.20pm

The incident at Port Sorell has now been resolved and a 41-year-old man has been safely taken into police custody.

The man had barricaded himself in his residence in Blackwood Crt at 10.15am today. No-one was injured when the incident was resolved at 9.50pm.

Several police units will remain in the area for some hours concluding investigations.

Nearby residents who had been evacuated from the area as a precaution will be permitted back into their homes in the next couple of hours.

Police would like to thank the Port Sorell community for their patience and understanding throughout a long day.


Police remain on scene after being called to an incident in Blackwood Court, Port Sorell, in north-west Tasmania earlier today.

A man believed to be armed with a knife barricaded himself inside a residence.

There are no other occupants inside the house.

Motorists are advised that Blackwood Court will remain closed while police respond to the incident.

Nearby residences were evacuated as a precaution until the incident is resolved.
