Police investigate shots fired at Launceston home

Tasmania Police is currently investigating after shots were discharged and impacted a house at Balfour Street Launceston overnight.

About 3:30am this morning, the residents of the house woke up to glass breaking and discovered a broken window and light fitting in the lounge room which at the time they attributed to being broken by a power surge.

While cleaning up inside the property this morning, the residents realised the hole in the window was consistent with a shot from a firearm and contacted police.

Police conducted doorknocks in the area today and through that process people reported hearing two gunshots and a car driving away.

Although no injuries were reported, a man and woman were inside the house at the time, which is particularly concerning for police.

Police wish to reassure the public that the incident will be investigated thoroughly. The incident does not appear to be targeted and does not appear to be connected to the incident in St Leonards on Thursday night.

Police are seeking information from anyone who may have noticed unusual activity in the Balfour Street between High and George Streets in the early hours of this morning.

If anyone has information that may assist, particularly anyone who saw any persons or vehicles in the area at the time are strongly urged to contact Tasmania Police on 131444. Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au
