Police are investigating a serious two vehicle crash in Devonport today.
At 2:25pm, emergency services were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Nixon Street and James Street, Devonport.

A blue Nissan Vector, carrying four youths, had been traveling on James Street before it allegedly failed to stop at the intersection and colliding with a silver Nissan Qashqai travelling south on Nixon Street.

The occupants of the Nissan Qashqai were two adults on holiday from Queensland.

Five of the vehicle occupants were transferred by ambulance to the NW Regional Hospital, with one female, who was a backseat passenger, taken to the Launceston General Hospital via the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a critical condition.

Initial investigations indicate that speed, inexperience, and inattention are possible contributing factors. The driver of the blue Nissan Vector is the holder of a Novice L2 Licence.

Tasmania Police would like to thank the members of the public that assisted emergency services at the scene.
