On Friday the 2nd of April 2021, two vehicles were subject to a significant traffic hazard due to an insecure vehicle load of firewood.

At around 3:00pm several pieces of cut firewood came free from the tray of a utility vehicle traveling on Poatina Road, Poatina. The firewood has fallen from the utility vehicle and struck the windshield of a vehicle traveling the opposite direction, causing significant damage.

This incident had the potential to cause serious injury to the occupants of the vehicle struck by the firewood. Tasmania Police are currently conducting Operation Crossroads, with the objective of ensuring safe driving practices on Tasmanian roads over the Easter holiday period.

In a statement Tasmania Police said, it is a timely reminder coming into the Easter long weekend that all road users need to ensure that their loads are properly secured, and they follow safe driving practices.

The driver of the offending vehicle will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.
