Following today’s distribution of preferences, the Tasmanian Electoral Commission today announced that the new Legislative Council member for Windermere is Liberal candidate, Nick Duigan.

Premier Peter Gutwein said in a statement that the result was great for Nick, his family and his campaign team as well as being another endorsement for the Liberals plan to secure Tasmania’s future.

“Congratulations to Nick Duigan on his election to the Legislative Council to represent the community of Windermere.”

Nick is a well-known figure across the electorate and has lived in Launceston for most of his life and now calls Windermere his home.

Throughout the duration of the counting process, Nick has been in the lead above all the other candidates, with Labor candidate Geoff Lyons following closely behind.

After the third count, Independent candidate Will Smith was excluded from tally.

“Nick will be a great addition to the Liberal team and I look forward to him taking his seat once Parliament resumes.”
