At 10:20pm on Monday 13 September, patrolling police from the Bridgewater Police Station have driven past a residence in Tottenham Road, Gagebrook.
Police stopped and observed the front bedroom to be ablaze and awoke the woman who lived at the address. Police then assisted the woman and her dogs from the house.
Police assisted a neighbour using a garden hose to suppress the fire until units from the Tasmania Fire Service arrived and extinguished the fire.
Initial investigations from the Tasmania Fire Service concluded the cause of the fire was undetermined.
The house suffered smoke damage throughout the house and water damage to the front bedroom. The estimated cost of repair is around $40,000.
The address had working smoke alarms fitted at the time.
