Tasmania Fire Service have issued an emergency bush fire warning alert level on their website for the St Helens – Stonyford Track area, saying that the fire will put the area at a high risk.
The fire is expected to be difficult to control and burning embers falling in the area will threaten homes before the main fire.
Tasmania Fire Service have warned that smoke and ash will make it difficult to see and breathe.
“If your home is well prepared for high risk fires and you can actively defend it, it should provide shelter” their website states.
If your home is not well prepared, residents in the area should seek a safer location to go to if the path is clear.
An evacuation centre has been set up at St Helens Football Club.
If you have a bushfire survival plan, you should use it now.
Anyone who does not live near St Helens is urged to stay away.
