Electorate office damaged overnight with fire

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after fire damage was caused to an office premises in
Best St, Devonport in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to the premises, the electorate office of Jeremy Rockliff, at 12.20am after the intruder
alarm activated.

On arrival officers found flames around the external front window area which were quickly extinguished.
The flames had begun to burn some carpet directly under the door with some smoke already inside the office.

Two windows suffered minor cracking at the base due to the heat and initial investigations suggest a liquid
accelerant was used on the external frontage.

There was no evidence of entry gained to the premises. Damage is estimated at several thousand dollars.
