COVID-19 has caused many disruptions to our day-to-day lives, including the loss of jobs and many events being cancelled due to restrictions and the health and safety concerns that present whilst living alongside a pandemic.
Many people look forward to watching the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race, however due to COVID-19, the unfortunate decision has been made to cancel this well renowned annual event.
“The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s decision to cancel the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race for 2020 is disappointing but necessary to protect the health and safety of all Tasmanians.” Said Jane Howlett Minister for Sport and Recreation
“The event has been an iconic part of the Tasmanian calendar for 75 years and I feel for those who were looking forward to participating in the event or cheering the yachts in during the holiday period.”
“There is no doubt 2020 continues to challenge our State, but this is just another hurdle we will overcome and I look forward to the event returning bigger and better than ever in 2021.”
